ACTION ALERT: Ask Senator Murray to allocate $2.2 billion for McKinney
We have a great opportunity to influence the funding level of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Program. As you may know, our very own Senator Murray is the Chair of the Transportation/HUD Appropriations Subcommittee. As such, she is responsible for HUD funding levels—including McKinney—in the Senate budget.
Several advocacy organizations in Washington are working together to try to achieve the goal of 150 letters to Senator Murray asking for $2.2 billion for McKinney. With our statewide network of providers and the Ten Year Plan leaders, we are well positioned to help make this happen.
Here is what I need you to do:
1. Use the sample letter below (thank you to Donald Chamberlain of Building Changes!) to tell Senator Murray why we need $2.2 billion for McKinney in fiscal year 2010. Personalize it with details from your community!
2. Fax and mail a copy to her DC and Seattle offices by June 15th, with attention to the appropriate staffers. (Contact info included on the sample letter.) They are still screening snail mail for anthrax, so faxing is the fastest way.
3. Please do not e-mail your letter. A stack of physical letters is harder to disregard than a pile of e-mails in her inbox.
4. Let me know when you have sent your letter so we can keep track of numbers. If you send me a copy, I can include info from your community in the letter that will come from WSCH.
